Welcome to Bayside Ka Huna
Home of Ka Huna Massage, Zenthai Shiatsu on the Bay.
Kia Ora, my name is Cherie and I am the founder of Bayside Ka Huna Massage here in the beautiful Redlands on Quandamooka Country.
I am a mother, a wife, an island girl by birth, and an earth girl at heart. Creativity, natural living, and the art of traditional massage and healing practices are at the centre of my life’s path.
My adult years have been filled with adventure—travelling, studying, working, parenting, and embracing the richness of life. I am blessed to grow up on the Chatham Islands, 860 km east of New Zealand, where my Māori ancestors braved vast seas and fierce storms to make their home. Their resilience and deep connection to land and ocean live on in me, and I carry that ancestry close to my heart.
I began my working life in cooking and catering, where I discovered a passion for “food as medicine.” This path led me into wholefood cafés and catering on yoga and massage retreats. In the late 90s, I completed a Remedial Massage Diploma, which opened the doorway into bodywork and yoga teaching. Study and travel through India, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia added further tools to my practice.
In the mid-2000s, I embarked on the Ka Huna journey at High Spirits Retreat with Mette, completing six of seven levels. Working at Sydney’s Ka Huna Centre and supporting training retreats helped to refine my practice. Now, with more than 15 years of experience, Ka Huna remains an authentic offering from my heart—its dance-like flow and fluidity allowing clients to enter their own space of healing and transformation.
More recently, I completed a 9-month Zenthai Shiatsu Practitioner Programme with Gwynn Williams at Ninderry Healing Centre. Zenthai Shiatsu weaves osteopathic techniques, meridian-based energetic balancing, Thai massage-inspired stretches, and Five Element theory. It is a practice of deep listening and responsiveness, and I invite you to experience its therapeutic playfulness.
Alongside professional training, my own healing has been shaped by lived experience—navigating trauma, grief, and nervous system dysregulation. These challenges have taken me deeper into understanding how we can soothe the nervous system, release old patterns, and cultivate resilience. Conscious movement, breathwork, and somatic practices are now integral to my approach, alongside a belief in meeting both light and shadow with compassion.
My offerings are born not only from years of study and practice, but also from the wisdom gained through my own healing journey. It is my intention to share bodywork as a nourishing, restorative, and transformative experience.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing a session soon.
