I’m no aromatherapist. I’m not fixated on any particular label. I look for sales and shop around.
I do love essential oils though and will share a couple of present favs. For those unaware, oil is a necessity in Ka Huna Massage. Not too much so as to be a slippery and somewhat unpleasant experience, but just enough to glide around the body and contours of the muscles. The right amount will mean there is enough skin tissue friction to be able to work firmly and deep where necessary. I use a combination of coconut and grapeseed oils. It is heated is a baby bottle warming device, works really well for any therapists wanting to heat oil. I have a favourite heat balm made by Hand Made Naturals. It’s divine and perfect for necks, sacrum and kidney areas. It smells of peppermint and cinnamon, there is also clove, rosemary and basil in there too! Srumdiddlyumptious! My 2 favourite oils of the moment come from Australian Oils of Nature. Kunzea which is believed to be one of the most healing native Ozzy oils. It grows coastal in the more Southern states and was first discovered because it was noticed that animals would often shelter and sleep beneath them. A tick free rest and a happy creature! Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiety relieving – all the good stuff. Frankincense Serrata which is different from Carterri. Serrata is also known as Indian frankincense and is used in many Ayurvedic potions and Carterri is found mostly in parts of Africa and is a thicker resin and the more expensive of the 2. I thought I would try the Serrata for economical purposes. I love it, it has the woody notes that frankincense is famous for and I can use is freely as an addition to my massage dipping bowl. It is known for anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and analgesic qualities. Also, anti-aging so it gets the big A+ tick of Approval. Rest assured, you will float away from your next Ka Huna Massage in a bliss of aroma and a little bit of therapy!

Oh Wowzah! I had a mild vulnerability hangover from my “coming out’ post. Sharing from the heart is an interesting process to watch the internal reaction and responses.
Often ‘Social’ sharing offers glimpses into amazing and empowered lives. There are the responding cheers, thumbs up and hearts. And then there are the non-responsive observers who clap silently from the side line and least not forgot those who quietly judge or feel their own insecurities rise. I am all of those from time to time and susceptible to those likes and dislikes. If we only post our ‘beautiful life’ moments then our audience are led to believe or deceived into believing our world is a conveyer belt of joy filled creative genius; a delightful mouth-watering crème de la crème truffle! However, if we post our sad ass stories, no one wants to hear it or it’s classed as over sharing. This is not particularly new information – most of us are aware of this. I just like the idea of sharing my honest view before enticing any of you into ‘liking and sharing’ any of my Bayside Ka Huna Massage promo posts. A dear friend Jairus says and lives by 2 words, “Who Cares!” He is one of the most open-hearted unrestricted – and caring people I know. We are all unique individuals navigating an earthly experience. If we can observe (rather than attach to) the obstacles that restrict our authentic heart centred expression than we are better equipped to share joy in the world. That is my aim and intention. When we flow on the Ka Huna table it is from a heart centred space – a space of authenticity. Often I am asked about the “style of massage” I offer and often I find it hard to put words to a practice that is so multi-faceted, multi dimensional. And at times I wonder if I’ve done myself a dis-service by opening my mouth! So, let me try with my written word what Ka Huna Massage is to me. With foundations in Hawaii and Polynesia this style can sometimes be known as Temple Style or Lomi Lomi. Depending on where and with whom one does the training, styles may alter slightly. Loving touch supporting transformative healing in the form of a fluid, rhythmic oil on body massage style being the common thread. Philosophical principals and a mantra practice known as Ho’oponopono, which supports the understanding and purifying of mind are traditionally taught. Whilst the word Ka Huna is used in many ways today, traditionally a Ka Huna was a Shaman or priest who practiced a variety of healing methods to help maintain harmony in the body and spirit. Today these practices, particularly the massage styles have been brought out to the West. As a practitioner I dance fluidly around, over and under the body using forearms and palms of hands. In addition, integrating techniques from remedial massage, glass/flame cupping, breathwork, and Zenthai Shiatsu (more on this style another time) which means working deeper where necessary. Dispersing and nourishing energy along meridian lines and acupressure points, more joint mobilization and rhythmic pulsing add a more therapeutic touch. Music!! A big part of the journey. And a journey it may sometimes be! Music is vibration -vibration is life. To quote Bob Marley: "One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain - so hit me with music" In the Bayside Ka Huna studio music carries power, enhances the flow, evokes emotion, keeps one present (falling asleep is different from dropping into theta state) and can enrich the experience and journey. I have many hours of music on my compiled playlist. It plays at random and it’s not uncommon for a client to speak of an experience or emotion that came from the music. You might hear the Beatles, Xavier Rudd, tribal chanting or some cosmic fairies calling to the stars. When we drop into Theta state, that dreamy space, we slow down the brain wave frequency activating our pineal gland for a heightened sense of intuition and clarity of thought. Cool Stuff! When you receive a treatment at Bayside Ka Huna massage expect your circulatory system (blood & lymph) to flow more easily, flushing your cells with fresh oxygen whilst detoxing tissues and organs, your muscle and mind tension to melt, your joints to feel buttery, insights and clarification of mind to be revealed, your wings to flutter and soul to smile. Hot towels and splashes of essential oil aid in offering a lushness to the session as well. My intention is to facilitate your journey with connection to ancestry and spirit, and heart awakening intention. To encourage the flow of physical and energetic pathways so that your own body wisdom shimmers into it’s own healing. A magical journey that I love to share - lets connect soon! |
